This week LS2 have been learning about Metaphors and Abstract Nouns.

This poem has been created by me and my  pair,  for this poem we were asked to use DRAFT(Delete, , Rearrange, Add, Fix, Talk) in our poem.

We used the 5 senses(Smell, hear, taste, feel and see), Punctuation( , .)& Complex( it when u add 2 ideas together, and one idea doesn't make sense without the other idea)Sentences.

Cybersmart

L.I To show what we do in our history.
This week for cybersmart me and my pair were required to create a DLO on what we do for 24 hours in our history, therefor the first tab I opened was google, following that I also opened my blog, my Gmail, my class site, my google drive then I opened Cybersmart. So this is all my history for the day.

Mars Rover

LI: To strengthen connections to technology

In Inquiry we have been learning about technological practice.  This week we have been learning about the 6 processes of Technological Design and how each one is important in the process of designing a product.

We are using the processes of technological practices to  design and build a rubber band- powered rover that can scramble across the floor. (add your ATV challenge here).

I found this activity interesting because I learnt why we need to follow the six technology topics.

Rock Paper Scissors shoot!!!!

L.I To learn how to code the Microbit to play Rock paper scissors and understand how the flowchart matches the code.

1. When I shake the Microbit, it will choose a random number between 1 and 3

2. I have to make a variable called hand and set this to the random number👀👀👀

3.If the number is 1- the Microbit will show the symbol for paper

4.If the number is 2-the Microbit will show the symbol for rock.

5. If the number is 3- the Microbit will show the symbol for scissors.

Something I found interesting about doing this task, is being able to understand the steps of coding.

Trust poem

L.I To write an abstract noun senses poem

Today for writing, me and my group were required to pick a word from a google presentation, me and my group picked the word " Trust", the reason why me and my group picked the word "trust" was because it was a easy word to talk about and because it is a very strong word. In this poem, me and my group were also required to use the 5 senses. The 5 senses are smell, look, taste, hear and feel, these are the senses we used in our poem.

something that i found interesting was that we could take our writing to another level we could use a lot of different language features it was a fun piece of writing.

Main ideas

L.I To identify the main ideas in the text

For reading we have been focusing on the Maui and Sun story. Our task was to identify the main ideas in the text. Our information we have gathered together is our opinions we have mixed together to create a more explained main ideas. Something we learnt from this activity is to read the text and identify all the different main ideas we might find important to vital. Something we found interesting about this activity is being able to identify the main ideas of a text.

Venn Diagram

LI: To explain in fewer words what the text is about.

For reading, we have been focusing on comparing text information such as stories, articles and other texts. The text we used for this reading task was the traditional Maori story of how the world came to be. This text was about Papatuanuku and Ranginui waking up from eternal darkness in earth's first light, and Tane Mahuta (one of their children) seperating them to grant his siblings and himself freedom from the darkness. Tawhirimatea was angry at the separation of his parents.

For this task, we watched a video and read a text based off of the Maori story of how the world came to be (In the Beginning). We labelled the main parts of the video version that are not included in the written version, and labelled the main prts of the written version that were not included in the video. In the middle, we labelled the similarities between the two stories.

I really enjoyed this task and found it easy because I am familiar with identifying the key ideas and comparing the two similar but different texts/information sources.

Descriptive Writing

L.I To create a descriptive writing about what we see in the ocean

Our focus for writing this week was to use descriptive writing, which means using words that are powerful, making your text more exciting to read and add more detail into your writing. We were tasked to work collaboratively in pairs to complete this task. Our task was to describe one of the two pictures that we were given. To make this task easier we would use our prior knowledge of sentence structures, nouns, verbs, adjectives, and descriptive words to create a piece of writing that uses descriptive words to make the text exciting to read.

Summarising

L.I To explain in fewer words what the text is about

For reading, we have been focusing on summarizing text information such as stories, articles and other texts. The text we used for this reading task was the traditional Maori story of how the world came to be. This text was about Papatuanuku and Ranginui waking up from eternal darkness in earth's first light, and Tane Mahuta (one of their children) separating them to grant his siblings and himself freedom from the darkness. Tawhirimatea was angry at the separation of his parents.

For this task, we found exactly twenty keywords to build an understanding of the text about. Keywords help us understand more in a short amount of time. Then from those twenty words, we chose six of those words to create a summary on. A summary is a short and brief description of the story so that we can understand the text in fewer words.

I enjoyed this task and found it easy because I am familiar with summarizing and understanding texts using the key reading comprehension strategies so I can expand my knowledge of a story.

Flowcharts and coding

L.I To learn how to use flowcharts to plan coding

This week for coding at tech is about flowcharts and dice. I've learnt a lot about flowcharts and coding the past few weeks, and I've been building my coding skills too. Something I found interesting about coding is learning to make a flowchart about the task we are focusing on. Something I learnt about coding this week is using my knowledge I already know about coding and it really helps me.

Sir Isaac Newton Presentation

L.I learn about Sir Isaac Newton

This week in Reading, LS2 has been working towards Simple Machines. Apart of this, we were required to learn about Isaac Newton. Isaac Newton is a physicist, mathematician, theologian and a Astronomer. We were also required to create a DLO with the following questions: Why is his work important? What did he find out? How does his work connect to simple machines?

I found this DLO really interesting because I learnt about who Sir Isaac Newton is, and what he did for a living.

Descriptive Sentences

L.I To understand how to use descriptive words.

For this activity we were required to work in pairs. As you can see me and my pair wrote down some descriptive sentences, the box on the left are just some of the ones our teacher gave us, and on the right are the ones me and my pair created. All we needed to do for this DLO was to just describe what that word meant. The words in red color, are the words we were describing in a sentence.

Sequencing sentences

LI: To understand how to sequence ideas.

Today for this activity, we worked in pairs. So as you can see me and my pair made two text boxes, the top one is the one we needed to fix and the bottom one is the right one, all we did was just put the sentences in the right order.

Following Classroom Rules & Expectations | PB4L

L.I To follow the rules and expectations, expected from teachers.

This weeks PB4L learning is about following classroom rules and expectations. PB4L is a acronym describing Positive Behavior for Learning. PB4L helps us understand the correct behavior for inside classroom learning and outer learning. This consist of Classroom discussions, walking to assembly, behavior on school trips, wet day procedure eg. respecting wet day monitors. All of these prospects will help us develop a strong and healthy learning environment.
I found this activity really interesting because i got to work with my friends.

Reassembling a mBot

L.I To understand how the mBot is put together so that I can fix it when something goes wrong.

today we took an mBot apart and then reassembled it. We then tested it with some code to make sure  that it worked correctly.

Here are the parts for the mBot that me and my partner took apart.

Here is the reassembled mBot.

Current Events

LI: To find the important information in a current event.

LI: To identify the author's purpose.

This week for Reading we learnt about author's purpose. Authors write for a purpose/reason. These reasons are to Persuade, Inform, Explain or Entertain (PIE). First we looked at Kiwi Kids News to find a article. Then, we made a copy of the Current Events DLO and answered these questions:
  • What is the article about?

  • When the article was created?

  • Where was the article was made?

  • Why the author wrote the article?

  • How it was made?

  • Why do you think the author wanted you to learn from the article?

I found this activity really interesting to explore, because I found out about the drones in UAE(United Arab Emirates), and what they do.

Student led conferences

L.I To share our learning with our families

The student led conferences is something I have never done before, I mean I have done it before but that was in Maori. I got up to my classroom and I already seen some of my friend's in there, showing their parents their work.

When we got in the classroom I started off by introducing my parents (Max and Leah) to my teachers, and my teachers(Mrs Dianne Fisi'iahi and Mrs Robyn Anderson) to my parents. When I introduced my parents to my teachers, we started to look at my learning.

When we finished looking at my learning I showed him my C.A.R.E Awards, I could see the proudness on my dads face.

Being a Jedi in coding

L.I To code the robot to move backwards, without touching it to be a Jedi
What is Baby Yoda's real name? The Mandalorian creators want to keep you guessing - ABC News

My robot will wait until I have pressed the onboard button before it does anything.
We used an "IF-THEN-ELSE" block, as this gives the robot two choices of things to do.
We are using the ULTRASONIC SENCOR on the front of the robot and we need to sense if something is 10cm in front of it. If something is 10cm or less on front of the robot, it will move backwards. IF something is NOT less than 10cm in front of the robot, it will move forwards ( ELSE). This is all put into a forever block so that the robot constantly senses what is in front of it.

Aretha Franklin's Song "Respect"

 Aretha Franklin's song Respect

For this activity, I completed a C.A.R.E Award, and this C.A.R.E Award is called " Reaserch Aretha Franklin's Song Respect". For me this C.A.R.E Award was really easy to make because all I had to do was just reaserch Aretha Franklins song respect, and talk about what it meant to me.

Collage of PBS

Today for this C.A.R.E Award I made a Collage of PBS. All i had to do for this C.A.R.E Award was just add some photos of PBS school.

Respecting Photos

 Respecting Photos
These photos are some respecting photos I have taken for this DLO, I would like to thank Ariana for helping me do the photos, and for helping me me for this DLO.

Presentation on a Respected Leader

L.I To make a DLO on a Respected Leader

Today I completed a C.A.R.E Award. This C.A.R.E Award was really easy to create, all I had to do was talk about Jacinda Ardern, and as you can see I was talking about, who are her parents, 4 facts about Jacinda Ardern, and lastly, I talked about, where she grew up.
I found this C.A.R.E Award really interesting to do because, I learnt about Jacinda's parents, and what she did before she was a government.

Cinquain Poem

L.I To write a cinquain poem to describe a sports star

We have been learning to write cinquain poems to help us strengthen our connections to description. A cinquain poem has 5 lines. Each line has a different purpose. Line 1 is a noun which is a name. Line 2 has 2 adjectives that describe the noun. Line 3 has 3 verbs that end in ‘ing’ and describe the actions. Line 4 is a noun phrase which is a group of words (not a sentence) that go together to describe the noun. Line 5 is a synonym which is a word with a similar meaning to the noun.
I enjoyed this activity because, I was talking about my favorite sports star

My Reading Pathway

L.I To show my personal journey through books

This week is book week at Panmure Bridge School, which means every class participates in a number of reading activities. One of our activities was to create a reading pathway that shows how my favorite books have changed over time. At the moment I like reading the hunger games book because this book teaches me how to survive a game with one weapon.
