Duffy assembly

L.I To understand how reading can change one's life.

Today we had Marc from Duffy come and talk to us about the importance of reading and how reading can make a big impact on your life.  Although Marc had some challenges in his life he used reading as a tool to get through the hard times.  Marc believes that there is only CANs and not CAN’Ts.

I found the words that Marc said so sorrowful because he got bullied for not reading. But then a teacher from jail taught him how to read then he got out of jail and had a much better life.

Key Competencies

L.I To compare the Key Competencies we think we will use on camp and the Key Competencies we actually used.

Before we went to camp our challenge was to think about when we might use the Key Competencies as we faced the challenges.  When we came back from camp we looked at this and compared how we thought we would use the Key Competencies and how we actually used them.
I found this activity kind of confusing because I didn't really get the thinking.

Kokako infographic

LI: To create an infographic using google draw that tells your audience facts about the kokako.

This week, everyone in LS2 has been given a set of different challenges based on our camp. For this activity we used our smart searching skills to find information about the North Island Kokako bird.

I found this activity kind of fun because i learnt about the Kokako bird.

Brochure

LI: To a collaborative brochure that tells others why Kokako Lodge is a great place to go on camp

Over the last week everyone challenged themselves during the sessions at archery, high ropes, kayaking, raft building, camp cooking, pancake race and team building/orienteering. Our group collaborated to create a brochure that shows others why Kokako Lodge is a great place to go on camp.

I found this activity kind of fun because i used my knowledge to write about Kokako lodge

5 minutes of Camp

LI: To recount a 5 minute snapshot of one experience you had at camp

The Nature’s Highsky

“Don't be scared” That was my cue before I started climbing. Once I got to the ladder my arms and legs were shaking like I was laying in the snow, I gripped the ladder as tight as I could so I would not fall off. The sweat was dripping down my neck and my hands started to heat up like the heat from a stove. I started to climb, the sweat was dripping really fast down my leg as I was really terrified, I got halfway then I breathed in and out and kept going slow

I was halfway to the top, I got to the top. I was scared cause I was really high, and very far away from the ground once I got to the top my heart was beating very fast like a cheetah running and never stopping. I held super tight on the rope that was attached to my harness so I wouldn't slip off, I started to walk across the log still terrified of my life, but my group was on the side supporting and comforting me. So I walked halfway across the log and felt very good about myself, but every time I took a step I felt like I was going to fall into something very deep like the ocean full of sharks. I got to the other side of the log and was very joyful for myself.

After I made it to the other side Caleb said I had to walk to the middle and do some challenges, So I did, I walked to the middle and Caleb said “Would you like to do some challenges” and I said “ No” straight away. Once I said no he said “ok now lean back” so I did, once i leaned back I could feel the cold breeze upon my skin, It also felt like I was flying in the air but I was also petrified at the same time, my feet touched the ground and that was when I felt good about myself cause I've done something I was terrified of.

Last week we went to camp at Kokako Lodge. My 5 minute snapshot shows my personal voice and I have tried hard to paint a picture with my words to describe what I was doing and how I felt.

I found this activity kind of hard because it took me a lot of time to make.

Camp Collage

LI: To create a collage of your camp highlights
This week LS2 have been celebrating our camp. I created this collage to show my time at camp and the activities I enjoyed. To make my collage effective I thought about the size of the images, the angle of the images and I tried hard not to leave any gaps between the photos.

I found this activity fine because i could make a collage of camp memories
